Fairly easy to install, super easy to program thanks to CHIRP. Working just fine with a cigarette lighter adapter (I will hardwire it down the road). Amazingly easy to program with CHIRP, i just copied over a list from another radio and uploaded, perfect. Came pre-updated with the Mic Gain option. I am using a window antenna holder with the little ~6" antenna from a Retevis HA1G outside, Audio reports said i was "blowing them out of the water" (repeater 40 miles away) at only medium 15 watts (I had mic gain on 3, guess ill turn that down to 2...) Never had such good radio reports before, audio from head unit and speaker mic is clear and loud enough. Note: be careful of the minimum voltage, this thing seems to need 13+V. With my truck off and voltage around 12V, it was starting to not transmit and behave strangely. Manual says its designed for 13.8V which is what most cars/trucks output.
It’s a great Radio if you’re a new ham and just got your ticket. I got it on the spring sale so it was a very good value. It’s been working very well. I like the screen and the way that you can program it with either chirp or software or from the screen itself works very well.
Great little radio for the price. Sounds great in my car and easy to customize.Make sure to research how to change the region setting to unlock all of the frequencies available to you as it sounds like these often leave the factory set to ITU Region 1 rather than Region 2.
Picked up two of these radios during Retevis's Big Spring Sale. Thank you for the 30% off! I am using the radios in my Ham radio go boxes. They seem rugged and can operate on the 2 M, 70 cm, plus FRS and GRMS bands. They are ideal for my needs as I wanted a solid radio that was portable and could transmit up to 25 watts of power. Great value for the price.
A great radio if you work on a ranch, or a farm. Easy to use, and has great distance.
Quite a few raves on this radio and I just got mine yesterday. Just a heads up, my unit was not shipped properly set up for operation in the US. I was unable to enter UHF Repeater frequencies, my unit was shipped set up for "Mode:01", it seems the proper setting for USA is Mode:02. Do an internet search on how to change the country for example search for "retevis rt95 country" and you will find instructions. There is nothing in the owners manual supplied that covers this! Changing the country mode will also erase your channels stored in memory!!!@E( :). Other than that I like it a lot and very happy it came with a data cable for backing up and storing data also known as the CHIRP cable.
My first dual band 2 meter / 70 meter ham radio. Great little first rig. I like that I can program GMRS channels into it. Able to connect to both ham radio repeaters as well as GMRS repeaters. Came on time, as described. Would and will be buying another one of these for my nephew
Nice little radio, works great.
Upon opening the box I got a surprise... although it is not mentioned in the product description, the one I received included the programming cable.First thing you need to do after powering it on, is to check what ITU Region frequency configuration the radio came with. The mode may or may not need to be changed, it all depends how it left the factory. Mine was set for ITU01, which is incorrect for the USA and the frequency boundaries for VHF/UHF will be wrong. There are instruction videos on YouTube on how to do this, they usually have "jail break" or "unlock" in the video title, but it's a fairly simple process to perform:1) Power up the radio by holding down the red power button, the FUNC button and the P4 button all at the same time until "TEST MODE RT95" appears, and then release the buttons.2) The middle display line will show what looks like a channel number (CH-xxx), but that is the setting menu number. Turn the channel knob until CH-043 appears, and you will see MODE.3) To change the mode, the microphone PTT button down and turn the channel knob to change the mode to MODE:02. Turn off the radio, then turn it back on and it should be in MODE 02, to check just do steps 1 & 2 again to check the mode, and if correct, turn the radio off/on.Now it's ready to program. Despite what other reviews say, this radio does indeed work with CHIRP.Display is nice, bright and easy to read. Still learning the in's and out's of navigating the settings and how to change them with the various buttons, which can be a lesson in frustration. There are somethings that might need "tweaking", there's been reports of low or muddy audio on receiving radios... the issue is with the mic hole on the top middle of the mic face being misaligned with the mic element. The fix is to slightly enlarge the hole... videos on YouTube for that too, and it's easy.I've made a few 2 meter repeater contacts, and a few 2 meter simplex contacts... all works to my satisfaction. Reception reports have been very good to excellent, no issue with the audio.Overall, for the price, this is a decent radio... ideal for making a portable "go box" with it.
I love this radio. Works better than I expected for the price. I used Chirp to program it and was operating within hours of receiving it.
What a nice little kit! Easy to program with CHIRP over all build quality is good. This is all you need to get you on the air mobile in one afternoon. I have been a ham for 30 years and this is a good set for both beginner and for a seasoned guy like me. Especially nice that it is small and will fit well in todays smaller cars
Replaced my handheld HAM radio with this one. Love it. I like how easy it is to use and can program it without the software.
Great little radio for the price. Has great range with very clear sound. I use it as a base station for both GMRS and VHF. I used it during the Kentucky tornadoes. Worked fantastically. I'd recommend for beginners and for anyone looking for a working transceiver at a reasonable price. Scanning could be quicker. Minor programming issues, but nothing that makes it a deal breaker. Works just as well as the more expensive brands, but for a lot less.
By the time I got my license the 30 day return policy expired. Unit no longer transmits properly.:::::: UPDATED REVIEW. I contacted the seller and they have gone out of their way to help me. They made some suggestions but the problems I am having are not consistent and they are replacing the product. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE
Great dual-band (UHF/VHF) mobile radio for the price point. I got two of them, one for a base-station and one for my truck because I was so impressed that they work so well. Outputs a solid 20W. Easy to program with CHIRP (or face-programming). Easily unlocked to access GMRS and MURS if you're into that. Very close in functionality to my Icom 2730A for a fraction of the price. WJ4CFW
I’ve been using the Retevis RT95 VOX for some time now, and honestly, I’m impressed with what you get for the price. It’s a solid dual-band mobile radio with clear audio, good power output, and a nice, clean display. The VOX feature (voice-activated transmission) is a great bonus—especially when I’m driving and want to keep my hands free.Programming it was easier than I expected. You can program it using CHIRP—just choose Retevis RT95 VOX from the model list. Make sure you have a working USB programming cable (mine used the Prolific driver), and it’ll save you a ton of time compared to doing it manually through the buttons. One thing I found out that really helped: You need to unlock the radio to use the full range of frequencies it’s capable of. Here’s how I did it:Turn the radio off.Hold down P4 + FUNC + Power On all at once.Once it powers up, turn the channel knob until you see the Mode menu.Hold the PTT button on the mic and turn the knob to select Mode 2.This opens up 136–174 MHz and 400–490 MHz.Turn it off, then back on, and it’s ready to go.Out of the box, it only had the lower part of the ham bands, so unlocking it made a big difference for me.Overall, I think the RT95 VOX is a great buy. It’s easy to use, customizable, and gives you a lot of flexibility—especially once it’s unlocked and programmed with CHIRP. A solid pick for anyone getting into ham and GMRS or looking to add a mobile unit to their setup.
"After 6 months of daily use, it still works like new. Very reliable in all conditions."
Nice radio, easy to program via software if you know what you're doing. I was impressed with the display and audio output from the external speakers. The compact radio surprises me because all the board level components are squeezed into a small package and it actually performs very well. The quality of the microphone is acceptable within its limits, only time will tell how long all the microswitches in it will continue to function without malfunctioning. I saw some reports that this radio final gets very hot at high power during long calls, but I really didn't find it to be too hot. Great radio, I will definitely keep it in my collection middle.
