Fast shipping, durable and solid radio
I was looking for a professional GMRS radio. The question is what makes a GMRS radio professional? I believe this radio checks all the boxes. It’s very sturdy, appears well made, has a professional Motorola look to it, simple concise menus, and an overall quality appearance and operation. I haven’t used many features of this device yet, but simple GMRS operation is crystal clear. Privacy tones are simple to set up. I haven’t personally used it in the rain but have have seen many videos of it holding up in harsh conditions. I’ll be using it in very cold weather doing snow removal and in other various wet weather conditions. So far so good; going to be THE GMRS handheld for my family. I have plenty of GMRS Baofeng and they just don’t compare.
Seems to be well constructed and so far it has been pretty easy to use. Still gotta try it out in the field but I going to assume that it will hold up just fine.
If you are into GMRS this is one quality radio. I used Motorola radios for 15+ years at work and this is very similar to those. Ip67 rating, thick body, long life battery, nice screen etc. Also the ability to listen to frequencies outside of GMRS is nice along with weather radio, and FM radio. Also the ability to program repeaters is a necessity.
This GMRS radio I recommend it does very well. My only complaint is the charging dock really doesn’t work so you have to use a type C to charge the battery and it will charge very well if you want this radio I would recommend you to buy one today.
This is one of the most sturdy well built easy-to-use radios on the market if you can't program this then you need to get off the air and out of gmrs and ham, the sister Radio HD1 is equal or better too long lasting battery's and drop proof and waterproof I tested it to 5 meters for 30 min still worked! Unbelievable highly recommended next to motorola this is my new go to ham and gmrs radio
I've had mine two months now and have used it every single day. I leave one channel on law enforcement and the other on the GMRS I communicate with my wife on while I work (journalist). With the stock antenna we got about 5-6 miles of range in rural environment. After upgrading to a Nagoya we can get about 12 miles in rural environment - and we've tested this extensively. I only have to charge this radio at most once a week. It is extremely user friendly and programming manually on the radio is a breeze. I get others may not have had good experience but mines is perfection and I've put it to extensive use.
Sturdy. USB-C charging, ip67 rated. Haven’t tested the IP rating, but this is pretty stout for a Chinese radio. Programming is different from other Chinese radios, but simpler than programming any baofeng. Overall, worth the money versus the Wouxun radios.
While I am still fairly new to GMRS, I have been experimenting with various radios which is a lot easier when there are so many affordable options. The HA1G is currently my favorite. Right out of the box, I loved the general build quality and feel in the hand, it has a good solid feel. Then after turning it on, it also has what I feel is one of the cleanest and easy to use menu systems of similar radios in this price range. Everything is fairly self explanatory and clearly marked which allows getting programming done right on the radio very easy if needed but the programming software was also very easy to use. The radio paired with the included antenna is also very effective. I do not do any bench testing in that area, but in practical use, this radio has the ability to clearly pickup transmissions that my other radios are blind to. Really pleased with this purchase, planning to get another to have on hand.
I love the weight and how it feels in the hand. The audio quality and ruggedness and build quality is unmatched! Customer service is amazing too, email them for extra perks on firmware and CPS that is not available online!
Radio arrives pre-loaded with repeaters and GMRS frequencies which is a plus. Programming is easy via the radio itself or the computer application. It even comes with a programming cable for computer programming, which is not listed so don't make the mistake of buying one like I did. The only thing I wish there were more of was the customizability of the radio on the computer programming software. I can do everything on the radio itself that I can do on the programming software. Would recommend this unit for beginner amateur radio users.
This gets 4 stars. Great radio. 4 stars because the antenna. They decided to make it a male sma antenna… so you can buy a $15 retevis antenna or a $4 coupler. The sister radio the HD1, has the correct connector. I review radios on YouTube @gmrskurvy
Works great. Easy to program.
A solid GMRS radio. Doesn't feel all plasticy and cheap like most cheaper radios do. Programming software isn't that bad either. I carry this radio daily now.
I rarely give a product a five-star rating. However, this device deserves it. It's a solidly built radio that delivers what it's designed to do—reliable and unfailing communication. Its simple design delivers crisp, clear audio both in transmit mode and receiving mode. Mind you, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles like some of my GMRS portables have, but when it comes to performance and reliability, this radio beats them hands down.
Radio works well! If you try to update and get a red LED, try different comm ports until it works. It’s a little finicky but it’ll eventually work. After that, the radio has been great! Very rugged and clear audio.
I love this handheld radio, and will be buying more for my family! Easy to see screen, and easy to navigate menu. Sound is very good. I like that it is so resilient, because I have a tendency to drop things!
Getting the CPS working is a nightmare. But once programmed it’s a good radio, lasted a while snow clearing season and a landscape season. Will probably be buying more.
I really like this radio, its easy to use and feels very rugged. I really like the menu on this radio, its a tiered format which I like better than scrolling through 50 items in a list. It is also very easy to program via software, This radio came with a programing cable. The antenna is fixed with a set screw under the rubber ring a the base of the antennas just remove the set screw and you can remove / change the antenna if you wish to do so. On the air reports on the audio were " sounds really good" and "don't change anything" The speaker is good and volume level will go way beyond where I am comfortable listening to.The only knock I have with this radio is the squelch tail is a bit loud no matter the volume level, other than that I say this radio is a winner
Because I have not had one before, they are new to me. I understand that they are "similar" to the FRS radios - the little kid walkie talkies that most people have seen kids playing with between houses. They have a very short range whereas the GMRS has UHF (ultra high frequencies) that can work if say, you are out hiking at a national park and want to check in with family back at the campground, plus the GMRS radio can work across "repeater stations" that can broadcast your signal further. Now with all that being said, a GMRS radio that YOU broadcast from does require an FCC license (just sign up, pay the fee of $35) AND the FCC's assigned callsign that, after paying for your 10 year license, you should receive in a few days. I have not yet received mine yet, so all I can to is turn this radio on and play around with it while listening to others. Oh, and one nice thing about GMRS - if YOU have a callsign, pretty much your entire family can use that callsign! Not a bad deal, really. So far I am impressed with the quality build of this radio and once I have my callsign I'll try to come back and update how well others can hear me.
This is the most customizable GRMS radio that I have come across, so far. It does not require that I connect it to a computer and run some software to configure it. Everything that I wanted to configure with it was done by using the menu options with the built-in display.I like that I can edit the channels as needed out in the field without running somewhere or dragging out a laptop. There is often a need to specify or remove a CTCSS or DCS code for compatibility with other users' radios, and using a computer is not an option. It will also allow users to add non-GMRS frequencies to the channel list. I was able to add local law enforcement frequencies to some of the unused channels. Although it will not transmit on those channels, it does allow the radio to be used as a scanner. It is great to be able to access these other frequencies as needed without the need to carry a separate scanner. It has a great battery life. It scanned through all its channels, including the law enforcement channels, for 24 hours straight. I am unsure of the total battery life, but it showed 50% battery available after 24 hours of scanning. The GMRS reception and the voice quality were great! The FM radio and NOAA channels could be better. I picked up a few FM broadcasts, but not as many as I expected. I could not receive any NOAA radio channels, so it would not help me with the weather in my area.Besides the FM and NOAA broadcasts, I am incredibly pleased with this radio. I am thrilled to have this GMRS radio available.
Very nice radio. This one will be going in my boat/tackle box/hiking backpack when I'm on the water or trail. Other reviewers have covered the specifics well but I will add that it does exactly what I want a GMRS radio to do and it's built well to boot. Also love that it has weather bands and FM Radio.Thinking of getting another as I'd love to test the range of these on open water.
Own about two dozen HT radios and this one is one of my favorites. Purchased this one due to it being a bit more rugged and waterproof. I wanted something i could take in the woods and could have on me while at work. I didnt expect it to be as nice as it is though. -First of all the speaker is one of the best ive heard on a HT unit. Volume gets way louder than most and clarity is great. Even when at high volume doesnt seem to distort the sound quality like some.- mic seems to be great as well. Tested it compared to others and seems more crisp. Also got positive feedback from others when hitting repeaters testing radios asking which sounds better. Others on the air all responded back the clarity was better and had a crisp sound to it.- The menu is easy to use. I had trouble at first with it due to being used to most other radio menus. This one is a bit more n depth, but just remember it has a selector knob at the top near the volume, so u can use this in conjunction with the up and down arrows to go through the menu a lot faster. Also allows selecting ctcss tones for repeaters really quickly on the fly.- programming on the radio is convenient. I did get a bit irritated that it doesnt like the windows 11 systems very much without installing different drivers. Tried a few, already had the prolific driver from other units, but still kept getting failed error codes when reading the radio. Started programming on the keypad and found out i could program it just as quick on the unit as i could by using the programming software on a computer and constantly reading and writing the radio. Really nice feature to be able to add text and label a channel name on the radio itself. As of right now it isnt chirp compatible but did notice its listed as a new radio they have in the works on the chip page. Hopefully can get around the driver issue, read my current radio, make a radio profile with these channels saved, so that i can simply plug in other HA1G radios and duplicate these channels to those to replicate my programming. That is the only current downside i see to this unit but hopefully is in the works of getting resolved. All in all, i think this unit is going to be my new carry radio that gets to go with me the most.
HOWEVER I purposely bought this radio for work, which I have permission to transmit on freq. it is blocked on this radio. These radios are blocked for anyone who is a first responder and has repeater access.
Like the title says, this radio is very easy to set up and use straight out of the box. I was able to program in 7 repeaters, build a zone and a scan group and modify the radio settings to my preferences within 30-45 minutes after unboxing and never had to look at the manual. The programming software is also fairly easy to use, especially if you have experience with other radio software. If you want to do as I have now done and build multiple zones and scan groups as well as easily modify any setting without flipping through the menu on the radio then the programming software is the way to go. Just be sure to read the radio and save that image file before writing anything to the radio, just in case something goes haywire. That way you can re-flash the radio back to a previous or factory configuration. The radio comes with a programming cable in the box and that's a nice touch. So far, the battery seems to hold up fairly well. Could be better if there was a way to have the backlight not stay on while scanning. Not really an issue where I am located though, because I can monitor the 2 active repeaters in my are via the dual watch option. I highly recommend this radio as a beginner radio or for great addition to the seasoned operator's collection. For the price, I am beyond satisfied. I can talk on a repeater that is ~60 miles away using this radio and it's stock antenna and I receive overall good feedback on quality of transmission. With a 16" whip, I am able to hit another repeater that is about 50 miles away and shielded by mountains in between. My transmission on that repeater is staticky but readable according to the station receiving. I have had 2 reports of low modulation audio (both reports from the same individual on the same channel) but I have not noticed an issue when testing on simplex (recorded audio received through a boofwang in another room). I also was given report of strong modulation on a separate repeater during a local GMRS Net, so the low audio modulation could be that this unit prefers other frequencies slightly better, or could be distance/terrain/etc., or a whole host of other possibilities unrelated to this actual radio.
these color screens just dont cut it when used in bright sun. fix that and you have a winner. other than that an overall good gmrs radio.
I’ve been using the Retevis Ailunce HA1G GMRS Radio for a few weeks now, and it’s quickly become my go-to handheld for outdoor use. Priced around $50-$70 depending on the bundle, this 5-watt GMRS radio packs a lot of punch for the cost, especially with its IP67 waterproof rating and rugged build. It’s marketed as a heavy-duty option for camping, hiking, or emergencies, and it absolutely delivers on that promise.Right out of the box, the HA1G feels solid—aluminum alloy internals and a tough, grippy shell make it seem like it could take a beating. I haven’t dropped it from 2 meters as some claim it can handle, but it shrugged off a light rain during a hike with no issues. The IP67 rating (submersible in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes) gives real peace of mind for wet or dusty conditions, which is a step above cheaper GMRS radios like the Baofeng UV-9G.It comes pre-programmed with 30 GMRS channels (22 simplex, 8 repeater), plus 226 customizable slots—256 total. Programming is a breeze, either via the keypad or the included USB-C cable with Retevis’ software. The VFO mode lets you punch in frequencies on the fly, and the dual-band VHF/UHF receive (not transmit) is a nice bonus for monitoring ham or weather bands. Speaking of weather, the 12 NOAA channels work well—I picked up clear alerts during a stormy day, though accessing them is a bit buried in the menus.Range is impressive for a handheld. In rural areas, I got 4-5 miles simplex with the stock antenna, and pairing it with a local repeater stretched that to 8-10 miles, crystal clear. Audio quality is solid too—squelch and mic gain settings cut through background noise nicely. The 2800mAh battery lasts ages; I got over 60 hours on standby and about 10-12 hours of mixed use before recharging via USB-C, which is super convenient for travel. There are quirks, though. The display is large and readable indoors, but it washes out in direct sunlight—not a dealbreaker, just annoying. The stock antenna’s decent, but upgrading to a Nagoya 771G closed a small gap at the base and boosted range slightly. Early reviews mentioned a glued-on antenna, but mine unscrewed fine—seems Retevis fixed that. The scan speed’s a tad slow, and I’d love a dedicated NOAA shortcut instead of menu-diving.For the price, the HA1G is a steal. It’s not a Motorola or a high-end ham rig, but it’s rugged, reliable, and versatile—perfect for beginners or anyone needing a tough GMRS radio without breaking the bank. I’d rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars; it loses half a point for the display and minor usability gripes, but it’s a standout in its class. Highly recommend for outdoor enthusiasts or preppers!
Easy to use and program like the Hd1 its a great waterproof Gmrs radio with a loud clear speaker.
Arrived on time. Output of 5 watts varified. Preprogramed GMRS channels. Comes with a programing cable.
Bought 2 of these and have been very pleased with them. This model has the best UI and speaker I have seen on a sub $100 radio, and actually beats some of the $200 - $300 radios IMO. Mine have been dropped from waist height onto hard surfaces multiple times and show no wear. My only complaint is that they only come in black, I would really like to see them made in safety green or similar color.
Great radio. Very easy to use and program. Very sturdy and the audio is clear. I’m very happy with it.
This radio has been put through its paces, waterproof, drop resistant, long range, clear audio. If you’re looking for a reliable radio for a fair price this is it.
The strong audio quality and loud speaker are definitely standout features, making communication clear and effective. The impressive battery life for both talk and standby time is a significant plus for users who rely on their devices throughout the day.Durability is also a huge factor for me, especially with the waterproof feature, which adds peace of mind for outdoor use. The comfortable feel in hand and the thoughtful design of the antenna and connector show that the manufacturer prioritized usability and practicality.Overall, it seems like the Ailunce HA1G is well-engineered to meet the needs of its users. It’s my new favorite GMRS radio.
I love this thing so much! Already told my friends about it. Highly recommend!
No complicated setup—just turned it on, paired it, and it worked right away. Super easy!
Had a small issue, but customer service replied in minutes and fixed it. Amazing support!
