Yes, RB48 portable FRS two-way radio directly talks with Retevis all 22-channel FRS radios and Retevis all 16-channel FRS radios on channels 1-5, such as RT22, RT21, H-777, etc.

RB48 can't talk with RB48P directly because they have different CTCSS/DCS settings. You can turn off CTCSS/DCS, and RB48 can talk with RB48P directly. In the standby state of direct call mode, press the [MENU] key twice, adjust the CTCSS/DCS number to "00".

Please don’t worry, this is because the VOX function is turned on. In the standby state of direct call mode, press the MENU key 4 times. VOX will be displayed on the screen, and you can set the VOX level.

In the standby state of direct call mode, press the MENU key 8 times, and the screen will display "U1". Press the Up or Down key to select ON or OFF. Press the PTT key to save the current settings and exit the menu.

Please don't worry, because there is a plastic protective film on the screen of RB48. You can tear it off and use the RB48 walkie talkie normally.

Clear reception. I can confirm they work through many cinder block walls! Seem highly durable and water proof, but have not had to confirm that part (fortunately!). I am happy with them, and would stack them right up against Motorola or Midland in regards to performance. Battery life with very light usage (less than 10 minute talk per day) equates to 4 DAYS. Very good!

I like having the PTT button on both the side and front, allowing the user to decide how to use it. Belt clip is screwed on, not a flimsy plastic connection prone to breaking. High power internal battery allowed constant use for 3 hours, and the battery charge icon still says it’s fully charged. The battery charging base is easy to charge and store the unused radios. USB-C is easy to connect if charging w/o the base, unlike other brands that use mini-usb (which require proper orientation, which makes them harder to connect). Sound is clear and the volume is controlled by an easy to find rotary knob (allowing volume changes while listening), not up/down buttons, which require you to look at the radio face to change. Accessories are limited, i.e., no wired PTT mic/speaker if you wanted the radio in a pocket or over the shoulder holder.

I bought these to communicate with my fishing buddy while we are fishing the flats. I can't attest to how far exactly these would work but being 1 1/2 miles apart, they worked just fine. there were no obstructions or hills in the way - justa straight line of sight. The waterproof design was very important to me since they are used while walking in water. One was dropped in the salt water and was rinsed with fresh water at the end of the day and continued to work perfectly. For my use, they worked great.
