You won't find a better radio for a lower price anywhere. These are dual watch, single PTT, dual band radios that do almost everything you could want
These are better than uv5r's in many ways. For one, they work. Even the chargers work. Uv5r chargers? LOL, don't even go there. The transmitted audio is not half muffled like uv5r's. The fit and finish is better. They also receive better.
These are great radios! I ended up buying four of them. The obvious radio to compare them to is a Baofeng UV-5R. But these RT85 radios are pretty much better than the UV-5R in every way. -The RT85 holds 200 channels while the UV-5R only holds 128. -The RT85 has a more sensitive receiver than the UV-5R and picks up weak signals that the UV-5R won't. -The RT85 has a screen that is much easier to read than the UV-5R. -The RT85 is much easier to manually program frequencies, Rx/Tx tones, and offsets than the UV-5R. -The RT85 has a much better build quality than the UV-5R. It feels very solid in the hand, like a quality product. The UV-5R feels cheap. There are areas that could be improved to make the RT85 better, though. Scanning through the memory channels is painfully slow, and there is no way to remove a channel from the scan list unless you re-program it on the computer. I also wish they incorporated USB-C charging into the battery or the cradle, but for the price, you can't be mad about it. Overall, it's a great radio, especially considering it's price. I'm glad I bought it.
Works well and Excellent customer service!
Amazing rig at this price point. Programmed using Chrip works first time. Four months in service no issue. Belt clip strong and so is the included battery. I will likely buy again great value
Very easy to use. Clear reception. I can confirm they work through many cinder block walls!
Excellent product, very good quality and easy to use. Recommended for outdoor work. I recommend it.
inexpensive, meets FCC Part 97 regs, mic/speaker plug is compatible with many other accessories, antenna connector compatible with many standard antennas, CHIRP programmable.
These are listed and sold as HAM radios but with a quick key sequence they now can utilize the 462 Mhz band! Now what you do is with the radio powered off press the 1 and 7 at the same time. While holding those buttons down at the same time turn the radio on. When it come up the radio is now unlocked to program and use 462 Mhz frequencys. Get the programming cable and download Chirp. This is the easiest way to modify and add GMRS frequencys. I removed all the preprogrammed HAM frequencys and replaced them with all GMRS. I've only used this radio in simplex mode but I'm sure you can add repeaters.
After trying several others these are what I settled for. They are durable and have great reception and clarity. The battery lasts longer than I need. Customer service is awesome and they respond quickly to issues.
Retevis walkie talkies, so far, appear to be delivering clear communications. We have tested in different settings—garage, street, bathroom, etc.
Some key points that I REALLY like, the antenna connector is a STANDARD SMA. Not the wonky SMA male like the Baofengs have. So any "normal" SMA antenna will work with it. A nice touch, because the included antenna is mediocre, but works fair. An upgraded "big daddy" antenna will definitely be a nice accessory though. Obviously, CHIRP programs these too which is a big plus and makes thing easy. The display is also STUPID bright on it's highest setting which makes seeing it outdoors easy. It is dimmable though so you don't need a welder's helmet to look at it. The biggest for me is HOW IT FEELS in the hand. It doesn't fee cheap. Sure, it isn't a Motorola Astro Saber, but it feels solid. It feels better than a Baofeng. I'll go out on a limb here and state It feels comparable to my Icom IC-V86, which is an absolute unit. For the price, you cannot go wrong, and even at a higher price point, you STILL wouldn't go wrong because it's just all around a better handheld than the UV5R ever thought about trying to be.
Each radio price is even cheaper than going out lunch, "that crazy!" It has tons of; bell. and whistles.
We live in the forest on 30 acres and these work amazingly well. They are a very good product, they have a very good range, recommended.
I got the radios, tested them, but haven't had a chance to use them in the field yet. I think they are exactly what I wanted for my off-road explorations.
I gave one to my wife and then set out across the stree to my neighbors garage to watch the hockey game and test them out. First thing that you notice is the audio clarity. The voice is crystal clear over these things! No cheap speaker distortion at all! Now the best part. My wife went down into my man cave (11 course basement) and I went out my neighbors back garage and then all the way to his back property line (1.6 acres) and still had crystal clear 2 way comms with my wife in my basement across the street!
Very nice radio if there is someone who comments negatively on the radio it's because they have nothing else to do this is an entry level amateur radio very nice radio especially the price
I bought this radio because our hunting channel is VHF and our racing channel is UHF. For the price, you can't beat it. Easy to program manually, long battery life, and clear sound.
I think they perform very well , dual band radio with this price, overall i liked it and it worked pretty decent
I was so pleased with the first two RT85 HTs, that I bought two more and four 3200mAh batteries; one for each. A true 5 watt HT that's easily unlocked and fully CHIRP programmable for all VHF, UHF, GMRS, and MURS channels. TX and RX is excellent and sound quality is clear. I highly recommend these to anyone that needs comms for everyday use or just for emergencies. Retevis rocks!
