One of my pivotal moments in my radio journey occurred this past September when Hurricane Helene devastated much of the southeastern United States, including my portion of NC where we escaped flooding but were still struck with torrential rain and 70+ MPH winds which crippled commercial power, cell service, and internet. While I had communications via ham & GMRS radio there were many gaps in being able to check in on friends and loved ones in the area. While still working towards cleanup & recovery at home and in the surrounding region, I ordered a RETEVIS RT97S repeater in order to provide off-grid communications for family and my community.
