I did some research and found out this type of frequency is best for my needs. Not long range and great for thick woods. I was concerns with the hills thou. Tried them out on the land and they worked amazing. Even when I am at the bottom of one hill and my son is at the bottom of another 1/2 a mile away or more. Perfect for what I needed.
radio's are great when you can't get around well, and need help
We use this to communicate between my wife and I when we are in the opposite ends of our home. Works very well. Only negative is it uses 16 different channels and the channel choice knob is right next to the volume knob. Sometimes you can accidentally change the channel while adjusting the volume.
