The Retevis RT97S is a portable GMRS radio repeater for use as a repeater for extended GMRS handheld radios. It is a compact unit with an LED to alert you when the channel is busy. It has a built-in duplexer. This allows the unit to transmit and receive on the same antenna at the same time. The Retevis unit is well-made. It serves our purpose as a GMRS repeater in a solar-powered system, for resident emergency-response work (CERT / Community Emergency Response Team). Simple and robust; good build quality.
We have an RT97S and the performance on it is pretty good for what it is, and especially if you have good line of sight. Antenna on a two-story roof with flat terrain should give you a lot of good coverage. We have one on a hill that I can hit easily from 10 miles.
