Another amazing radio by Retevis. Great water resistance rating. Easy to use, full 10w of power, easy Chirp programming, USB-C charging for quick charging, great all around radio.
Very nice radio, full 10W power as measured on some frequencies. Easy to program via keypad or better yet via CHIRP. Massive battery holds charge long time and best of all it is USB-C chargeable!!!Kind of makes me want to give away several other HT's and get a few more of these things to loan for outings.
Radio works well and output power is as marketed but beware when using dual watch. It will switch to the other channel for seemingly no reason without warning. Be careful if monitoring public service frequencies.
I own several Retevis radios for emergency purposes. This model is by far my favorite. It will run quite a long time on one charge. The transmit and receive on this radio are also really good. Build quality is great especially for a radio at this price point. I did also put a signalstick antenna on mine. Great dual band HT and definitely recommend it.
Like the size and weight of the radio, larger capacity battery and that it's wheather sealed. Audio quality is not as good as some of my other HT's, but is acceptable. Was a little difficult to program and set-up. Menu system and instructions a bit vague on how things work. Other than that, it's a good radio.
Good radio for the price
I was surprised how the support team of Retevis tried to solve my problem with the programming of the unit! They perceived untill there was a solution found. Not only a solid good radio but an amazing support team! Highly recommended.
After looking at reviews of this radio on here and on YouTube.. I chose this HT after doing my research.Honestly, it’s great!It’s basic, has great power, easy to program with the keypad, and on the computer, the signal output is pretty darn good, and the receiver seems to perform better in this radio better than other radios I have.I hit a repeater from 93.5miles away so far!I’m thoroughly impressed by this, and I definitely recommend this HTLike I said it’s basic, but has great features.10 watts, usb-c charging, great antenna out of the box, lots of battery life, waterproof(resistance), easy to operate.Speaking of which, get a 5/8 wave whip antenna paired with this, and you’re going to LOVE the performance you get out of it.

I have managed to talk (QSO) using a repeater 40+ miles away, from a mountain top 2.460 feet high, without obstructions, using VHF 2m band, with clear sound both ways. The radio is solid and has met my needs. Had to up-date the firmware and the Retevis support Team help to solve the issue.
RA89 is more perfect than I expected. I extended the frequency of RA89 through some small methods. It can connect to my RT97S 10 miles away, maybe because there are no obstructions around me. If you want a cheap long range walkie talkie, the RA89 is really good.

All parts are of very high quality. The radio itself is no exception - very high quality construction and parts. The display lights up and is easy to read. This radio is durable and I have no doubt it will stand up to some extreme wear and tear! The volume options are great - it can be loud.
Retevis RA89 is a rugged radio featuring a USB-C charging option in addition to the desk cradle. I was able to communicate with distant stations that my Yaesu FT60R. IP68 waterproof feature is very nice.
Like most I have been on the hunt for the perfect offroading, camping, and rugged radio. I have found some to check some of my boxes, but none have came as close as this RA89 to checking all of them. My ONLY wish is that I could do a channel sync and only see one channel on the screen. Everything else about this radio is 100% great. I checked in on a uhf repeater last night and was told I was "booming right to the repeater. You sound fantastic!" I have zero complaints at all. I had some issues getting the programming software to load correctly on my old Windows 7 laptop, but I finally got it figured out. One thing you need to understand- if you are looking for a handy sized radio to carry on your pocket all day, this is NOT it! This is a very beefy, heavy, and sturdy radio. It makes all of my others look miniature. Job well done Retevis!
I found this HT & read all about it and I'm sure I will like it when it arrives. I'm going to use it along with an amp and a good diamond dual band base antenna. This review is about what I thought of it before using it. How can you say no to a dual band HT for $65.99? If I have anything more to add to my review I will write about it in another review.
I am completely happy with the operation and performance of my RA89 radio. I bought RA89 as soon as it came on the shelves and was one of the first ones to use it. my dealing with Retevis has been pleasureable and without issue on a number of occasions.
I tested the IP68 rating by punishing this radio in the Pacific Ocean surf and it survived just fine. Check out the video!
