XavierNot a toy radioReviewed on Mar 25,2025This is the most customizable GRMS radio that I have come across, so far. It does not require that I connect it to a computer and run some software to configure it. Everything that I wanted to configure with it was done by using the menu options with the built-in display.I like that I can edit the channels as needed out in the field without running somewhere or dragging out a laptop. There is often a need to specify or remove a CTCSS or DCS code for compatibility with other users' radios, and using a computer is not an option. It will also allow users to add non-GMRS frequencies to the channel list. I was able to add local law enforcement frequencies to some of the unused channels. Although it will not transmit on those channels, it does allow the radio to be used as a scanner. It is great to be able to access these other frequencies as needed without the need to carry a separate scanner. It has a great battery life. It scanned through all its channels, including the law enforcement channels, for 24 hours straight. I am unsure of the total battery life, but it showed 50% battery available after 24 hours of scanning. The GMRS reception and the voice quality were great! The FM radio and NOAA channels could be better. I picked up a few FM broadcasts, but not as many as I expected. I could not receive any NOAA radio channels, so it would not help me with the weather in my area.Besides the FM and NOAA broadcasts, I am incredibly pleased with this radio. I am thrilled to have this GMRS radio available.DominicReally nice inexpensive radioReviewed on Mar 23,2025Very nice radio. This one will be going in my boat/tackle box/hiking backpack when I'm on the water or trail. Other reviewers have covered the specifics well but I will add that it does exactly what I want a GMRS radio to do and it's built well to boot. Also love that it has weather bands and FM Radio.Thinking of getting another as I'd love to test the range of these on open water.CooperQuality GMRS radioReviewed on Mar 21,2025Own about two dozen HT radios and this one is one of my favorites. Purchased this one due to it being a bit more rugged and waterproof. I wanted something i could take in the woods and could have on me while at work. I didnt expect it to be as nice as it is though. -First of all the speaker is one of the best ive heard on a HT unit. Volume gets way louder than most and clarity is great. Even when at high volume doesnt seem to distort the sound quality like some.- mic seems to be great as well. Tested it compared to others and seems more crisp. Also got positive feedback from others when hitting repeaters testing radios asking which sounds better. Others on the air all responded back the clarity was better and had a crisp sound to it.- The menu is easy to use. I had trouble at first with it due to being used to most other radio menus. This one is a bit more n depth, but just remember it has a selector knob at the top near the volume, so u can use this in conjunction with the up and down arrows to go through the menu a lot faster. Also allows selecting ctcss tones for repeaters really quickly on the fly.- programming on the radio is convenient. I did get a bit irritated that it doesnt like the windows 11 systems very much without installing different drivers. Tried a few, already had the prolific driver from other units, but still kept getting failed error codes when reading the radio. Started programming on the keypad and found out i could program it just as quick on the unit as i could by using the programming software on a computer and constantly reading and writing the radio. Really nice feature to be able to add text and label a channel name on the radio itself. As of right now it isnt chirp compatible but did notice its listed as a new radio they have in the works on the chip page. Hopefully can get around the driver issue, read my current radio, make a radio profile with these channels saved, so that i can simply plug in other HA1G radios and duplicate these channels to those to replicate my programming. That is the only current downside i see to this unit but hopefully is in the works of getting resolved. All in all, i think this unit is going to be my new carry radio that gets to go with me the most.JordanReally good radioReviewed on Mar 18,2025HOWEVER I purposely bought this radio for work, which I have permission to transmit on freq. it is blocked on this radio. These radios are blocked for anyone who is a first responder and has repeater access.AdamGreat GMRS radioReviewed on Mar 16,2025Like the title says, this radio is very easy to set up and use straight out of the box. I was able to program in 7 repeaters, build a zone and a scan group and modify the radio settings to my preferences within 30-45 minutes after unboxing and never had to look at the manual. The programming software is also fairly easy to use, especially if you have experience with other radio software. If you want to do as I have now done and build multiple zones and scan groups as well as easily modify any setting without flipping through the menu on the radio then the programming software is the way to go. Just be sure to read the radio and save that image file before writing anything to the radio, just in case something goes haywire. That way you can re-flash the radio back to a previous or factory configuration. The radio comes with a programming cable in the box and that's a nice touch. So far, the battery seems to hold up fairly well. Could be better if there was a way to have the backlight not stay on while scanning. Not really an issue where I am located though, because I can monitor the 2 active repeaters in my are via the dual watch option. I highly recommend this radio as a beginner radio or for great addition to the seasoned operator's collection. For the price, I am beyond satisfied. I can talk on a repeater that is ~60 miles away using this radio and it's stock antenna and I receive overall good feedback on quality of transmission. With a 16" whip, I am able to hit another repeater that is about 50 miles away and shielded by mountains in between. My transmission on that repeater is staticky but readable according to the station receiving. I have had 2 reports of low modulation audio (both reports from the same individual on the same channel) but I have not noticed an issue when testing on simplex (recorded audio received through a boofwang in another room). I also was given report of strong modulation on a separate repeater during a local GMRS Net, so the low audio modulation could be that this unit prefers other frequencies slightly better, or could be distance/terrain/etc., or a whole host of other possibilities unrelated to this actual radio.AustinHard to Beat with Extensive UseReviewed on Mar 14,2025these color screens just dont cut it when used in bright sun. fix that and you have a winner. other than that an overall good gmrs radio.HerbertThe Ailunce HA1G is a winner!!Reviewed on Mar 11,2025I’ve been using the Retevis Ailunce HA1G GMRS Radio for a few weeks now, and it’s quickly become my go-to handheld for outdoor use. Priced around $50-$70 depending on the bundle, this 5-watt GMRS radio packs a lot of punch for the cost, especially with its IP67 waterproof rating and rugged build. It’s marketed as a heavy-duty option for camping, hiking, or emergencies, and it absolutely delivers on that promise.Right out of the box, the HA1G feels solid—aluminum alloy internals and a tough, grippy shell make it seem like it could take a beating. I haven’t dropped it from 2 meters as some claim it can handle, but it shrugged off a light rain during a hike with no issues. The IP67 rating (submersible in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes) gives real peace of mind for wet or dusty conditions, which is a step above cheaper GMRS radios like the Baofeng UV-9G.It comes pre-programmed with 30 GMRS channels (22 simplex, 8 repeater), plus 226 customizable slots—256 total. Programming is a breeze, either via the keypad or the included USB-C cable with Retevis’ software. The VFO mode lets you punch in frequencies on the fly, and the dual-band VHF/UHF receive (not transmit) is a nice bonus for monitoring ham or weather bands. Speaking of weather, the 12 NOAA channels work well—I picked up clear alerts during a stormy day, though accessing them is a bit buried in the menus.Range is impressive for a handheld. In rural areas, I got 4-5 miles simplex with the stock antenna, and pairing it with a local repeater stretched that to 8-10 miles, crystal clear. Audio quality is solid too—squelch and mic gain settings cut through background noise nicely. The 2800mAh battery lasts ages; I got over 60 hours on standby and about 10-12 hours of mixed use before recharging via USB-C, which is super convenient for travel. There are quirks, though. The display is large and readable indoors, but it washes out in direct sunlight—not a dealbreaker, just annoying. The stock antenna’s decent, but upgrading to a Nagoya 771G closed a small gap at the base and boosted range slightly. Early reviews mentioned a glued-on antenna, but mine unscrewed fine—seems Retevis fixed that. The scan speed’s a tad slow, and I’d love a dedicated NOAA shortcut instead of menu-diving.For the price, the HA1G is a steal. It’s not a Motorola or a high-end ham rig, but it’s rugged, reliable, and versatile—perfect for beginners or anyone needing a tough GMRS radio without breaking the bank. I’d rate it 4.5 out of 5 stars; it loses half a point for the display and minor usability gripes, but it’s a standout in its class. Highly recommend for outdoor enthusiasts or preppers!ZacharyGood option for the moneyReviewed on Mar 11,2025Easy to use and program like the Hd1 its a great waterproof Gmrs radio with a loud clear speaker.TylerGood option for the moneyReviewed on Mar 09,2025Arrived on time. Output of 5 watts varified. Preprogramed GMRS channels. Comes with a programing cable.EvanReally Impressed, Great Bang For the BuckReviewed on Mar 07,2025Bought 2 of these and have been very pleased with them. This model has the best UI and speaker I have seen on a sub $100 radio, and actually beats some of the $200 - $300 radios IMO. Mine have been dropped from waist height onto hard surfaces multiple times and show no wear. My only complaint is that they only come in black, I would really like to see them made in safety green or similar color.
