FUNCTIONS & FEATURES
Excellent reports on transmissions (via repeater or simplex.)
Signal reports from other stations have been excellent citing full quieting signals and very good audio (see below.) This has been true whether contact was made via a repeater or simplex.
Overall, I really like the Retevis MA1. I've owned numerous dual band transceivers from Anytone, Radioddity, Kenwood, Yaesu and others over the years. The Retevis MA1 is, by far, the best one that I've owned.
I've been running the MA1 for a couple weeks and have been very happy with its performance. I expanded the frequency range on it and it now receives and transmits on FRS/GMRS/MURS as well! The Air Band is pretty great as well. I have a couple hundred 2m/70cm repeaters programmed. Many of them are instantaneous connections as the transmit is so powerful. All my radio checks return saying i'm super crisp and loud...astonishing as im transmitting w/ an indoor antenna from a middle floor in a concrete loft building with literally hi rises all around my location...hitting repeaters 30 miles away. The overall quality is excellent. Best display i've seen, and great programming software. The removable front face is also great as I transition from home to vehicle. Things I wish there was an improvement on: - The RJ11 phone-type jacks that connect the removable front face as well as the microphone should be replaced with something more robust. - The integrated speaker could be better. - The rubber protective face that covers the speaker ports and USB-C interface should be able to be completely removed, or a snap-off solution. - Drag and drop channel functionality on software would be beneficial. - A more comprehensive manual explaining the more advanced features would be nice. Other than that, its a super nice mobile radio that im very happy I own!
This radio is a work of art. The screen alone is so sharp and crisp. The radio is not overly complex but still has great options. UHF power for me came in at 42.3 UHF / 49.70 VHF, extremely powerful and has allowed me connections to repeaters others wouldn't. My only main complaint is waiting for CHIRP programming support. I have already reached out, and they informed me it's on the way and in the works. Their included software is not bad either. This brand has really taken off and now has products with very clean transmit, which is not guaranteed with some manufacturers. I am an Icom/Yaesu guy, but this radio meets all my needs and then some. I highly recommend this product, and I normally don't write reviews. I do, however, want to see more accessories around the product, such as faceplate bracket, etc… It is new, so I am sure they are working on some. Covers many bands related to UHF/VHF. FIVE HUGE STARS
After owning radios from all the big brands, I can confidently say the MA1 is hands down the best dual bander I've ever used. Retevis really nailed it!
I ordered this radio when it is released, maybe I am the first person to order it. The Retevis MA1 is performing very well but I've only had it for a few hours. It's not a cheap looking build and feels solid. Really high power 50Watts.
i am using this Retevis MA1 as a base station. I have a few HT but this is my first base/mobile unit. It can pick up weaker signals and reach more repeaters then the handhelds I have. I picked this transceiver because I wanted the remote head to let me mount the radio body by the antenna and have the controls on my desk. This radio does more then I need it to do for a really good price.
I'm using this Radio as a Base Station and I'm able to reach Repeaters as far as 40 miles away consistently. The scan feature allows me to hear conversations on 12 repeaters. Programming manually isn't and issue. After using this radio as a base for several months, I'm looking for a Quad Band that includes the 220 mhz. instead of 6 meters that has no repeaters in my area.
I purchased this to be used as a cross band repeater. Simple set up. Works great.
I am not sure what or why some of the feature ratings really apply. How do you judge sheerness or thickness? Well, the radio is not all that thick, maybe less than 2 inches. Size wise it is good for a mobile radio as it has the detachable front. But I am using it as a base station with a TekPower 23 amp power supply and it seems to be doing great. However, this one seems to be doing really well as I mentioned. I would recommend it as there are not that many Quad band radios available for this price range. You could get one of the Quad Band radios which are 25 watts for about half the price, but then you may only get about 20 - 25 miles range.
I love it! Nice radio for the money. I noticed there are some issues from other people's reviews online. We will see... Good power output and very nice features. It is a good looking and good sounding radio..
Detachable faceplate and crossband repeater function is awesome.
Great Radio, easy to install, love having this within reach in the car.
I'm blown away by the signal reports I'm getting. Other operators consistently praise how clean and strong my transmissions sound!
Whether I'm on simplex or hitting repeaters, the audio is crystal clear with full quieting. It's like the person is right next to me!
Unbeatable price for the quality. Feels like a premium product at a budget cost.
