RT3S Dual Band DMR Radio Non-GPS/Built-in GPS

This logistics is very fast. The RT3S I bought before was shipped from China, and the RT3S I bought recently was shipped from Australia. It only took me three days to receive my product. I am very satisfied with the speed.

Уже можно было бы начать выпускать аккумуляторы с зарядкой от usb. Так же неплохо было бы начать писать програмное обеспечение основываясь на достижениях upen gd 77 или хотя бы продавали отдельно прошивку с расширенным функционалом, тогда бы радиостанция не имела бы аналогов по функциональности. Кстати верните возможность скачивать прошивку на этом сайте на эту модель. Сама радиостанция хорошая, нравится что есть фильтра и в городе практически не ловит помех. Жду когда выйдет радиостанция по функциональности как anytone 787 с usb. тогда начну обновлять свои радиостанции.

Bottom line: Good, clear audio and easy to use interface makes the RT3S a great choice for the DMR newcomer, or as a second DMR handheld.

So let’s talk about operation. The radio is pretty easy to use. Use the volume knob to turn on the radio and the channel selector to pick a channel within a particular zone. The arrow buttons select the primary band and sub band on the dual watch display. To select a zone, press the green button and use the arrows to scroll through the list. To cancel, press the red button. The LCD display is easy to read and the keys light up for use in the dark. On the side of the radio is a large push to talk button flanked by two programmable buttons. The top button is set for power level and the bottom button is monitor, but these can be reprogrammed in the software.

Though the radio weighs in at 285 grams and is a little heavier, but have good sound quality

I really tried to like it but every time I resolve an issue myself, I was presented with another. I eventually was able to get this radio working with my pi-star hotspot and also connected to my local analog repeater for VHF comms. Then I wanted to use the 100,000 digital contacts by upgrading the firmware with the file Retevis identified to use. The firmware upgrade process was uneventful, but unfortunately, I still could not import any more than 10,000 that the radio was setup to have using the CPS. I tried to manually add the 10,001st contact manually but the radio reported the contact list was full. Also the CVS display showed corrupt digital contact info. Tech support asked me to send my codeplug but after 1 week of no replies, it was time to move on. The RT3s hardware seems to be solid, but the firmware and CPS needs lots of improvements. While the price of the RT3s is affordable, it comes with lots of issues. Perhaps in hands of a person with the right technical skills and patience the RT3s can perform as it should. Good luck!

Do not get this radio it will be programed one sec and it changes on its own accord the next I use vfo (,freqency mode) and its good when its good and aggravating when not

Solid radio, came broken though. I think it may have been used, there’s a huge area of defective LCD screen. All the components were sealed and are perfect, the radio has huge problems with the screen.

Seems to be a very solid built radio. Easy to use and has great sound. Excellent little radio in my opinion.

Great product, maybe antenna could be better, but if quite enought for 90% use cases. I had a problem with the firmware download link and vfo mode, but Laura from the costumer service helped me a lot. Recommended

I used a wrong CP software on my RT3S radio and I have misconfigured it. The support online was excellent and I want to thank them for helping me. The radio looks to me as a very good product. I will have fun with it.

I bought the RT3S for analog and digital use. The radio is very easy to program and operate. The body is sturdy and solid, battery mount is solid and the knobs feel secure. It is a pleasure to use as the buttons are large enough for ease of use and the backlight of the screen is bright even in sunny days. I would highly recommend the Retevis line of radios. I know the next Handie-Talkie I buy will be a Retevis.

I was new to the DMR functionality when I purchased the radio and it has since helped me learn more about digital radio operations. First of all, I am pleased that my RT3s came with no programming issue since the Youtube tutorials & programming software were fairly easy to follow. The voice clarity is definitely better than analogue radios and the built quality is almost similar to other major radio retailers. My only issue is that the channel changing knobs and PTT button seems very light to press. Wish it was a bit firm so that accidental transmissions can be eliminated, then again it's my personal opinion. The IP64 mic is very durable and compliments RT3s in nearly all professional fields. If you're a business/new to DMR operations, I'd obviously recommend RT3s.

The RT3S has been straightforward to use and I am impressed with the audio reports I've received - both through Analogue repeater use and via DMR. From north London I've got into digital repeaters at S9 with clear signal and working with my hotspot at home has been easy! Battery life has been great so far. What I also like is the antenna connector is compatible with other SMA to N-type adaptors, so I can connect to an external antenna at home.

Got the radio charged and on the air the same day I received it. Analog performance with the included stock antenna is better than any other handheld unit I own. This is my first digital radio but it seems to reliably make connections to a repeater I wouldn't have expected. Free software for programming works flawlessly. Very happy with the purchase and looking forward to making more use of this radio.

Been working with Mototrbo since 2007 for work, but now have this Retevis RT3S and it is really wonderful. So many channels, talkgroups and contacts... Battery could last a bit longer but hey, for the price, simply amazing. Thanks Retevis for another awesome product

The radio is my daily driver. Owning it for 15 months it has not failed me. I also suggest getting a spare battery pack and I have the eliminator for the car. The Nagoya 701 antenna works great for this radio.

Well-built radio with everything you need to start into the world of DMR. Audio quality is great with plenty of volume available. Battery life is good given the size. Programming software is capable, but more suited for an experienced codeplug programmer. Overall, a great buy!

Build quality on this radio is suppurb. I'm loving it. Audio is pretty good both rx and tx. Unfortunately I cannot test tx on dmr due to my license but analogue and rx dmr are both great. Does pick up a bit of interference in the cbd but that is to be expected. Overall a great handheld.

As this is based on the TYT MD-UV380 the build quality is good. My only criticism is the programming software could do with some code clean up but otherwise its a great first dmr radio

Everything working better than expected. In fact it has been one of the most fun radios I have had in 50+ years of being a Ham. Programming was straight forward but the features were so rich that you had to be careful. Now I can store my other HT and just use the RT3S. It does everything I could ask for. It is used while walking the dog, driving the car, sitting in the shack, and sometimes, when my wife lets me, in the living room while watching tv. BTW, it has taken a few tumbles since I got it. It just takes them in stride. No problems at all. I can see one of the Retevis mobile radios in my future. Thanks for a good product.

Solid radio. However, the transmit button is too exposed and gets inadvertently pushed all the time.Other than that its a good hand held for the price. If there was a fix for the ptt button i would buy again.

I just got my radio. 2 days earlier than anticipated. I was very excited about that, I was very impressed with build quality. Feels very solid in your hand.

They're very comfortable in my hand as well and that's rare. have to say I'm very surprised with the radios, best thing is if something happens to it hiking or in my time out and about in the summer, for the price it's not a killer to replace like some radios.

The sound is really nice on this radio.Everything is laid out in the menus in a logical manner...it just makes sense and is easy to navigate

Got my the RT3S a few weeks ago so pretty excited when I got it being it is my first DMR radio.Got it out of box and was impressed with the way it felt and looked so got it all charged up sat down ready to play and then the realization came that I'm not a very good computer guy lol

One of the chargers didn't work at all and one of the displays on the radio stopped working after 1 day of use. the other radios and chargers work just fine.

I love playing with DMR radios. This little thing is fun! It connected to my PC instantly and was very easy to program. The CPS program resembles the software from other Radioddity radios and has the same features as many higher end radios. It has a nice wide display which shows more characters than my other radios

These is a great radio. It's small enough to fit in my hands yet powerful enough to make contacts 20 miles away no problem. The best part is that it's just like the RT3 as far as menu and some functions.

This is an excellent DMR radio. It's clear and easily programmed with the included USB programming cable and accompanying software.

What a difference. Got a replacement radio. This one does not get hot during charging and I am able to program it. Still working on program. I have been getting great help from Retevis tech support. I get answers within 24 hours. Very pleased with it now. This is my first DMR radio so it is a learning experience for me. Would not hesitate to buy another one of their products.

I had a few concerns initially with this radio, but Retevis came through with a firmware update and a replacement programming cable. They now have a happy customer and I will certainly look to Retevis for future needs. Excellent customer service and support. Fast delivery. The RD-5R does an excellent job in digital and analog modes. The display is clear and well laid out. After doing some programming and testing, I'm overall very pleased.

Works great, good volume and clarity. We used for trail communications so can't say much for transmit distance (we were never that far apart), but it worked great.

Very happy with these units. Very well made, sturdy, great materials. Batteries charge very slowly. But that will be solved with new rechargeables if you have them.

Using it with my existing Motorola XPR6550 radios and repeaters. Programming is almost identical to moto turbo CPS software. Very happy with it. Excellent quality. I've dropped it a few times with no visible damage.

after the first two or three shocks, the presences of the collar is all you will need! quality was better than anticipated and couldn't really be happier with the results.

Very powerfull. It is easy to press shock button instead of tone on the transmitter,this is why I gave it 4out of 5 stars my medium size dogs very quickly learned with this collar I would think it too powerfull for small dog less than 30lbs.I taped off the shock #s after two weeks and just use tone which they respond to immediately

I'm new to the radio world, I've own other radio walkie talkie type and those worked too, but not like the RT3 I work in heavy concrete buildings and cell signal sucks. But not for my Retrevis RT3 I can be heard crystal clear in basements and distances my other radios couldn't come close to.. Awesome job!!

Very robust, dropped down twice and nothing bad happened. Sound quality is very good, both transmit and receive. Sounds like a much more expensive radio. Operates on analogue as well, which is very nice since you can have both analogue (many repeaters out there and many radios) and DMR on one device. You absolutely need the programming cable to configure. Note that you need a license to use it, such as an amateur radio operator license, depending on which country you line in. The only thing I don't like is that the battery only lasts for two days in listening mode or one day if you transmit as well, so you need to put it on the charger frequently AND the charger is really slow, takes hours to charge fully. If you intend to use it in the field often, buy a second battery (which can be a challenge due to the recent strict post legislation). Other than that I really love this radio and wait to see its long term reliability.

Item came on time, but when I was using it I noticed that when pushing the PTT button, the screen would completely distort and then go white. I had to turn radio off and back on to fix this. So,back it goes. Bad QC? Contacted Retevis, they responded in a timely manner but wanted me to take a video of the issue and sent it to them. If I buy an item I want it to work out of the box. So I will return the radio. Update: 9/21/18. Immediately after I posted my review, I was contacted by Angela from Retevis Direct and they shipped me a new unit, no Questions asked. I received it yesterday and I must say I am so happy and excited, Retevis really stands behind their products and they want the customer to be 100% satisfied. They apologized numerous times and I am really impressed by their customer service. This is my 2nd Retevis product and I will be a customer for life after this experience.

I have digital and analog devices so the setup was easy out of the box. The device runs and operates as expected to and the battery so far has been lasting 2+ days depending on use. The only issue I have was not being able to add channels from the device, but being able to edit them is possible. The other features of the radio seem a little confusing at first, but once you get past the learning curve it's much better. Overall it's a great radio and I would definitely recommend it.

Chinese manufacturers have arrived in the luxury class. This device does not need to hide from brand manufacturers. The large-signal immunity is perfect. The storage facility, and the battery life is better than the brand-name manufacturers. Qualitatively better than any ICOM, YAESU, or similar device. Have the device now for 3 months and I am absolutely satisfied. Die Chinesischen Hersteller sind in der Oberklasse angekommen. Dieses Gerät braucht sich nicht vor Markenherstellern zu verstecken. Die Großsignalfestigkeit ist perfekt. Die Speichermöglichkeiten und die Akkulaufzeit ist besser als bei den Markenherstellern. Qualitativ besser als jedes ICOM, YAESU oder ähnliches Gerät. Habe das Gerät nun seit 3 Monaten und bin absolut zufrieden.

I bought my RT3 3 months ago it has worked flawlessly ever since. This is a sensitive radio in receive mode and has good audio in TX and RX. Easy to program for the Amateur DMR networks. Strongly built High Class Radio.

I was skeptical at first about the quality of a DMR radio from China, but after using it for a few weeks, I'm a fan. Yes, it's a clone of the XPR 7550 in a lot of ways. No, it doesn't have the selectivity or sensitivity of a Motorola. But it is a very usable radio for a very good price. The software is easier to use than MOTOTRBO CPS, too. The FPP features can be a bit buggy, and if they fixed those issues I'd happily give it 5 stars. I also wish they'd document what encryption algorithm the enhanced privacy feature uses. The key is MUCH larger than 40 bits, so it's not ADP. It may very well be AES256 based on the key length. At any rate, two of the MD380 radios will successfully talk encrypted to each other when the key information matches. I have not been able to make encryption work between a MD380 and a Motorola XPR 6550 though.

Its not the revered bathead product, but for a sub-$200 product that supports MOTOTrbo DMR, its wonderful. The radio has good heft, solidly made and works as advertised. The radio is flawless when examined on my Motorola service monitor. Everything was in spec. The CPS software, like all CPS programming software requires a doctorate to understand and is not for the faint of heart. Not a big deal--if you are a newcomer to DMR, you might want to get an example codeplug to start out and use it for an example to learn from. I was an absolute noob to DMR and I was able to figure it out by using Tennessee's VolNet codeplug to work off of. It only took me a couple of hours to get the hang of it. Now I can help friends out pretty easily customizing codeplugs to their liking. Thus far, the radio has performed flawlessly.
