I've been hearing about DMR locally. Watched some You Tube videos and got interested in the mode late last year. The last radio club meeting had a local DMR repeater system guru give a presentation and that got me even more interested. I was ready to pull the trigger but put it off a little. Then an even better deal came along and I snatched this guy up.
I'm new to ham radio; just got my ticket 30 June of this year. All the talk on the local VHF/UHF (2 meter/70 centimeter)repeaters is DMR, so I decided to jump in head first with this radio as it was the most common one used and had all the rave reviews.
Purchased when on sale. There is a new model with GPS reportedly on the way.
Programming took some research initially, but now I find the RT3S very straightforward to use.
As my first DMR radio, the RT3S was perfect for learning digital modes. Great value for beginners.
This radio is built like a tank! The rugged construction can definitely handle daily use and accidental drops.
So much fun to use! Super intuitive—didn’t even need the manual.
Exactly as described. No surprises, just does what it’s supposed to.
Been using it for weeks now, zero problems. Works like a charm!
