Retevis RT97S portable GMRS repeater extends the range of your handheld or mobile GMRS radios. Ideal for farm use, community communication and various outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, and off-road driving, as well as for emergency preparedness, this portable repeater is a valuable addition to your gear.
1. This version of GMRS repeater RT97S features an updated case and a DB-9 Female connector for adding an external controller for linking purposes. You can add this repeater to the myGMRS Network by purchasing a linking bundle or an all-in-one kit that is plug-and-play (coming soon).
2. Featuring 8 GMRS repeater channels, full 5W of output power after the duplexer, and a built-in notch duplexer, all you need to do is add an antenna and feeder cable to get on the air.
3. Built into a cable TV amplifier box, the RT97S is rugged and water-resistant. Two power adapters come with the repeater, a 12V/24V cigarette lighter plug, and an AC adapter. A USB programming cable is also included, so you can program the repeater to your channel and CTCSS/DCS tones of choice.
4. The RT97S is ideal for solar-powered repeater sites where low power and a small footprint are required. At such a small portable size, this repeater is perfect for camping trips or emergency preparedness.
5. Inside the case, there is a small 10W notch duplexer, an LCD, a DC-DC power adapter, and the integrated radio module itself. This repeater does NOT simply have 2 handheld radios inside.

Purchased this GMRS repeater to set up an ad-hoc bicycle based repeater network for events where participants may not want to carry mobile devices. Havent put it into use yet, but tests show it works extremely when parked atop a downtown parking structure. Powered by a small lithium battery tge entire system of repeater and vattery fits into a discreet looking backpack.
We now can communicate much further on our GMRS network. Excellent product.
Read description before to insure you order the right one, the GMRS model works great and easy to set up
Works perfectly for neighborhood communication
For what it is, this is a great little unit. I haven't done extensive testing on it like some others on here, but it works as intended. I live in the Bay area surrounded by hills and trees and I'm still able to communicate with family members 7 miles away using Retevis NR30S with both houses surrounded by trees.
The repeater puts out about 5-6 watts of power after the duplexer, as would be expected. When connected to a 6dBi outside antenna, it has decent coverage.
A compact, easy to use, easy to program GMRS repeater. Not really much else to say. It just works. Comes with everything you need to run it on AC power or DC in a portable setup. Only downside is the duplexer robs about half the output power, which is to be expected on a small 10W device, but it’s still a great setup.
I bought this RT97S because I could not get 2 radios to work as a repeater without duplexer. So I got this and it works very well. easy to program and setup. Feels solid and built well. Also I do not know what the issue is with others saying it only makes 3.5 or 4 watts after duplexer. if you move away from tuned frequency on duplexer of course the power will drop out. At 462.575-467.575 I get 7 watts and 5 watts on edges.
It is only a 10 watt repeater with just above 5 watts out of the duplexer. It is a quality unit.
The repeater works well approximately 5 miles range within wooded area. the speaker microphone is great. SWR is 1.0 with 6.79 watts output. Overall happy with the purchase
As advertised. Good quality and great value of paired with proper antenna.
Very simply to set up -- basically plug it in, hook up an antenna, and select your desired repeater frequency pair ( it can be done on the unit itself without a computer -- or use the computer and select specific info). Works great. Make note that as with any GMRS repeater range is going to depend on location and height of your antenna! Great price considering it's everything you need except for the antenna!!
Great gmrs repeater
Be sure to download the program software and make it your own! Great mobile repeater! Just works once programmed to your channels and tones!Range varies.. Thanks Retevis!
I purchased an RT97S several months ago to have communications with my children that that live within the valley. Installed in my upstairs bedroom with a J-Pole antenna mounted a few feet above the edge of my roof. I live on a hillside near the north end of a lake and from my roof have a clear view of the valley. I have been able to open the repeater from over 25 miles away at the south end of the lake. I was not able to test the audio quality, But I was very surprised to hit the repeater from there. Audio quality is generally good. Bought and installed an IDer to make it legal to use in the USA. Plan to connect it to a backup battery for emergency use.
The machine works very well.. I have it hooked to a six element UHF beam antenna.. which radiates the 10 watts up to figuring 90 Watts.. about $100 for the antenna antenna.. high grade coaxial cable MPD digital.. $120 for the cable.. with BTech handheld walkie-talkies.. 4to5 watt output.. 3to5 MI. My Midland 40 watt.mobile have only tested into the three to five mile range range.. I have their 6db gain magnetic Mount antenna.. avery good and clean audio.. the more one can put into the antenna and cable the better this unit works.. also have a 7db gain vertical ground plane antenna.. radiating about 40 Watts(all antennas need to have a standing wave ratio of 1.5 or lower.. one must buy the appropriate antenna and cable) with the same high grade cable.. haven't tested it fully yet.. I'm in the gmrs band.. with a license .. very good unit you cannot go wrong with it.. quick answers with support.. update.. across the water 12 miles to the horizen with a 2 watt walkie-talkie.. two to three miles inland in the trees and houses with the walkie-talkie.. this is all done standing outside of a vehicle.. mobile radios in the vehicles get 7 mi inland.. Update the machine is still working.. 20 mile on the boat on the 2nd story.. 5 W walkie talkie and Ant. just slightly higher her at 53'..
I use a Retevis RT97S to extend my GMRS radio. I've been pretty happy with it. 3/4 of the way up a hill, I generally get a couple of miles, sometimes more depending on direction.
I achieved a 15 km range consistently after mounting it on a high hill. Works great
Ed Fong GMRS Antenna with this? CANNOT BE BEAT! Miles of Fars
A compact and user-friendly GMRS repeater that’s easy to program and set up. Works flawlessly! Comes complete with everything needed for both AC power and portable DC operation.
We’ve been using the RT97S for our hiking group, and it works wonders! The repeater boosts our signal so we can stay in touch even in remote areas.
Great for keeping in touch with neighbors
Works well after 5 months
It works very well. easy to program and setup.
The repeater for what it is works well for small limited application. Locating it on higher ground than users augments its ability as does the 6db gain antenna. There is no pre amp on receiever but its not meant for mountaintop heavy use or extreme conditions. As a mobile relay for 3 to 4 miles augmentation coverage it cant be beat.
This product works well, especially in open areas. For best performance in urban environments, we recommend optimizing antenna placement for maximum range.
Our GMRS network now has much greater range. Excellent product!
I have had zero regrets with my purchase of the RETEVIS RT97S and would recommend it as a reliable cost effective solution for a local coverage solution for your GMRS needs!
Where I am, I get 7 miles on full power on wideband high and 5 miles on low power. Awesome, thank you Retevis, I love it!
Great customer service , Amber was very attentive to my shipping issue and followed my order from order to delivery.
They work great, are compact and easy to install. Use them on my Jeep with power source and in an office building to extend range. I love the microphone that comes with it, it works great.
very easy to set up.
