The difference in power can be significant. For example, using 5W of power, communication over a long distance might result in weak or no signal. However, with 25W of power, the range can greatly improve, allowing for clearer and more reliable communication over much longer distances.
While power is crucial, factors like antenna height also play an important role. In situations where elevation isn't favorable, higher power can be a big help in extending communication range.
The factory output is between 22W-25W. However, when operating with a duplexer, there may be power loss, reducing output to around 15W-22W, depending on the quality, thickness, and length of the feeder cable.
For users operating with GMRS, the frequency range of the RT97L is:
This range allows for effective communication and operation in the designated GMRS frequencies, which are crucial for users who need clear, uninterrupted signals.
The RT97L portable gmrs repeater is designed with flexibility in mind. By connecting the repeater to a Raspberry Pi via its DB-9 interface, users can expand the repeater's functions. This allows for easy programming and the ability to customize the repeater to fit specific needs, whether you’re operating in a particular area, enhancing security, or fine-tuning performance.
The RT97L gmrs mobile repeater is rated IP66 waterproof, meaning it can withstand powerful jets of water from all directions. This rating ensures that it performs well even in harsh weather or environments with heavy water flow. However, to ensure optimal performance and longevity, it's always a good idea to install the repeater in a protected location, especially in areas with extreme weather conditions.
Yes, the RT97L portable repeater comes equipped with an internal duplexer, which is essential for enabling the repeater to work efficiently with an antenna. The duplexer allows the device to handle both transmit and receive signals simultaneously without interference.
The RT97L is capable of storing 16 different channels, which means it can quickly switch between up to 16 communication frequencies.
The duty cycle for RT97L repeater is 100%.
RT97S base station comes with a DB-9 port, which can be directly connected to the included speaker mic and is compatible with Raspberry Pi.
Because of the limitations on FRS by the FCC, this repeater can be only ued for GMRS radio, no mater handheld GMRS radios or Mobile GMRS radios.
Yes, the RT97L repeater is compatible with GMRS handheld radios that are repeater capable.

Running one right now. It puts out 19-21 watts out of the repeater.
20 watt repeater about 1500 feet over the valley, with 100 watt solar panel and 100ah battery. About 6 foot of coax of your choice. Change your 4x4 post length for your application. On an outcrop overlooking a vast valley. Height isn’t your main concern because you’re already high enough to cover the area you’re trying to cover. You have clear view of the sun and 100watts is more than enough. Dig a hole about 2-3 feet a bag of quikrete a your talking.
I set up RT97L Repeater for my ranch in Bushness, FI. It works well. The tower is now 30' And the antenna came with the system from Retevis. Tower is now 30' & MA09 High Gain 462~467MHz GMRS Omni-Directional Base Antenna 4.5/7.2 dBi High Gain Fiberglass Antenna 5.75’. I will recommend to my friends.
I have been testing a 97L here and all looks good so far. Eagerly awaiting the availability of the 97L version of the RepeaterID. Maybe I should offer to beta test one.
A compact, easy-to-use GMRS repeater that's simple to program. There's not much else to say – it just works. It comes with everything you need to run it on AC power or set it up for a portable DC configuration. Perfect for both stationary and mobile setups.
It works as intended. I live in the Bay Area, surrounded by hills and trees, and the RT97S has allowed me to communicate with family members 7 miles away without issue.
Easy to program and setup. Feels solid and built well.
Our facility is located on 150 acres, with most of our team working within a 29-acre section of the property, both inside and outside the buildings. The furthest point is about 2 miles away from each other, and we've been using the RT97S to improve communication across the site. The RT97S, with its 5W outpu, has provided reliable coverage over the entire area, ensuring that we can stay connected no matter where team members are working.
We live in the mountains of Montana and use the RT97S for communication across our ranch and for first responder activities. We’ve set up a GMRS system with a base station, repeater, and six handheld units, which we use in our side-by-sides and while working the ranch. The RT97S has significantly improved our coverage, especially in areas where cell service is unreliable or non-existent.
We will be using the RT97L in the wilderness for search and rescue missions. The 25W output provides solid coverage, even in remote areas where communication was previously spotty. It’s the perfect solution for ensuring we stay connected during critical operations in challenging environments.
I work on a 50-meter metal vessel, and communication across the entire boat can be challenging due to the structure. After some research, we chose the RT97S, and it’s been a fantastic repeater setup. It’s the perfect match for our needs!
Comes with everything i need, perfect gmrs repeater kit
It’s a terrific bundle option and a great repeater along with terrific customer support. Being fairly new in GMRS I’ve learned a lot with this bundle.
I use this GMRS repeater kit while camping to help keep in touch with family. We get about a 10mile range with hand held radios bouncing through the RT97s repeater attached to this antenna.
