I use the ra86 as a base. Had this unit up for a week now and works great. This radio shines when connected to a good antenna. I can reach repeaters over 40 miles away. The RA86 is easy to operate. Great radio!
Great, small radio! I needed something to fill the bill for a GMRS and I wanted more than a hand held. This was the perfect size, love the power rating.
Output power is good and the radio performs. I have been using this for a few years and love the size and convienienc of the radio.
Easy to order and item came as advertised . Love this radio ! Great purchase and great price
Fast shipping, compact and easy to move from vehicle to vehicle or to a go box .
This radio is a solid piece of equipment. I have enjoyed using it to stay in touch with the other vehicles in my party during road trips.
When I got my GMRS license I picked up a Retevis RA86 and loved it. Are these perfect for SXS/offroading? Yes! Are these perfect for a GMRS beginner wanting to get on repeaters and learn the hobby? Absolutely! Are these good for an avid GMRS user who needs a simple radio to use mostly for simplex on the farm, small buisness, and for traveling in groups? Heck yes! I only have 2 repeaters near me that I talk on and both are on different channels. 85% of the time I am on the radio I am on simplex either on the farm, at my small business, or traveling to with my sxs riding group. This little radio is perfect for what I need. If you were like me with a big bulky over featured radio that you might use 30% of it's features- give this a shot.
Despite all the youtube reviews I watched on this item, I was still shocked at how small the radio is. Has repeater functionality if you have repeaters in your area. The mic is impressive, feels very solid. Good radio for the price
I bought this GMRS radio to replace my CB that I used when off-roading with my Jeep club. The radio was east to install and also easy to use. I was surprised at how small the body of the radio is compared to my old CB. I installed it between the two roll bar tubes that run from the front roll bar to the rear. Overall for the price and functionality I am very pleased!
Excellent radio works great.
Bought this for the Jeep. Easy install, mounted the base on the bracket under the passenger seat of a JKU. And it works with Retevis GMRS handheld radio great.
Works great, easy to install. Looks clean with hidden install and just an RJ45 jack in the dash for the mic connection.
It is a good and reliable product that you can trust to keep it on in the car and not get too hot. The sound quality and antenna are good for 20watts. The sound output from the speaker and base or both is excellent. The hand manual control panel made it very easy to use.
If You are new to the hobby and are looking to put a radio in your truck/jeep/vehicle, this mobile will be a good choice. Transmission Distance: Simplex: This is communication from radio to radio without the use of repeater. I placed the supplied antenna smack in the middle of the roof of my truck. I was able to clearly communicate with my brother with the identical radio and placement 7 miles away. Behind hills, trees, houses, and all the fatsos inside them. Repeater: I am able to "a big repeater from my house which is about 15 miles and speak with others all over the city on it.
This is a solid radio for intro into GMRS. The guts are small enough to mount just about anywhere and the head end allows complete control from the handset. The range appears to be pretty good with the provided antenna.
Installed in a Jeep. Works great. It serves my purpose of communicating with friends while off-roading. The sound is crystal clear. Mic feels substantial and not like cheap plastic. Will definitely be buying a couple more for other vehicles
I arrived a day early. That was a good thing. I have used this in my mobile rig and as a base unit. I have not been disappointed at all, it worked great for a jeeping event.
The Retevis RA86 is my favorite GMRS mobile radio. Everything is in your hand. Easy to use. A full 20 watts of measured power. Very low SWR with stock antenna. Has the longest range of all my radios. Good price. I'd buy another one. Also, it is a wide band.
