Yes. The RT29D runs DMR digital and analog FM in the same unit, so it can talk to legacy analog handsets on their existing frequencies while you migrate talkgroups to digital at your own pace. Program the analog channels first, confirm coverage, then move crews over zone by zone. This avoids the cost and disruption of replacing an entire fleet on a single day.
The RT29D has no screen, which is deliberate: there is nothing to crack on a job site and nothing to misread with gloves on. Group Call, Single Call, and All Call are configured in CPS programming software and then assigned to channels, side keys, or the channel selector. Once programmed, a user simply turns to the matching channel and presses PTT. If your team adjusts settings frequently, consider the RT29S, which adds an LCD display and keypad.

Encryption keys and channel parameters are configured in CPS programming software alongside frequency, colour code, and time slot settings. Manage the CPS password carefully: entering 500000 with an empty password clears it, and a lost code cannot be recovered. Encryption applies to digital mode; analog channels use standard CTCSS/DCS privacy tones instead.
Match the bundle to headcount rather than to budget alone.
