The antenna is very important not only for handheld radios but also for repeaters. If you want to get a further communication range, you'd better choose a high-gain antenna. Retevis released its new GMRS Base Station Antenna Model MA09.

When we talk about the antenna, we will notice the dB, this is an important measurement because system gains and losses are calculated by adding and subtracting whole numbers.
But actually, not the highest db Value will go farther than an antenna with a lower dB.
Medium dB helps strengthen communication in areas with some obstructions like hills and scattered trees. Retevis recommends its antennas with a dB between 3-6.
Higher dB casts a longer signal, a better fit for areas with minimal obstructions like wide open plains or highways. The recommendation is that for these environments, you shop Retevis's antennas 6.6-7.5 dB
So for repeater, usually we suggest our customers build their antenna higher. For example to set up on the top of the roof. It has fewer obstructions and gets a wide-open area. so Retevis recommend an antenna around 7dB.
