With the proper antennas, those handhelds work well over a mile on even terrain. The harmonic suppression is within the manufacturers specifications. The actual output power at 900MHz is 1.12 watts and at 945 MHz it is .9 watts. A nice alternative HT when the FRS/GMRS band if swamped because of an ongoing event.
It great radio along with full wave flexible antenna for much better Gain than short standard antenna. Depending on line-of-sight to indoor's and outdoor's in neighborhood, the range is from quarter mile to more than 2 miles.
The distance is short limit to couple miles, ( compared to 446, 223 or 146 mhz) but performs great in that area. Dmr program is easy and adds more secure conversations. I did program a few amateur ham freqs. for repeaters. Also can connect outside antenna, but at 1 watt keep coax 5foot or less.
This model supports Dual-slot DMR which means it delivers a higher quality of digital signal. As long you're within range of each other the audio quality should be excellent.
Not many 900Mhz radios to choose from. These are 1w DMR and analog, although I don't think part 15 allows for 900Mhz analog transmissions. Good range and clarity.
It's a basic no display 128 channel (8 zones of 16 channels) Analog / DMR radio. Programming was not too bad. I can't select low power in the programming SW. I have only tested on DMR with a hotspot, (tweaking that to get a decent BER was fun) so no comments on range etc. I have seen the antenna comments. I will put the radio on a station monitor, but I don't have DMR support so I can only test analog. I know Retevis is not going to sell a ton of these but not bad. I think I'll buy some extra batteries.
I bought a pair for use in Field Day, but they do this and so much more. (I'm speaking to licensed hams here.) These cover the entire 902-MHz band and can either operate in analog or DMR mode. I haven't been close enough to the 902 repeaters around here but I plan to try them out there also. These are in a clean, tight, rugged package that would fit on a belt, or a purse, or a dashboard of the truck. I liked the pair I got so much that I bought another pair of them for a ham friend's girlfriend who was newly licensed. So they have a 'private' channel to talk as they camp around the country. I don't know about the Part 15 (unlicensed) aspect of using these, since I don't need to know that, but 902 MHz is inherently such short range that you probably won't bother anyone.
The software is decent but lacks advanced features. Basic functionality works well, though more options would be better.
These radios work very well, and they are usable right out of the box. Programming software works perfectly. Expect maybe a half mile range with these radios, give or take, which is not a problem for general use. So far I've had no interference using these radios, but I live in a rural area. The 33cm band (900MHz) is interesting, and being able to play with it this cheaply is pretty cool.
I bought a pair of these radios to learn more about the 902-928 MHz band's propagation and interference levels, evaluate the potential of the band for linking between repeater sites, and to get my first taste of DMR. I was also happy to see they can be programmed for 25 kHz channels in analog mode, which is legal for hams and important to testing I want to do.
Great for the price. I have used them with a repeater to talk 40 miles, but the repeater is doing the work to make that contact. Direct from handheld to handheld, you will be lucky to get a mile. At the UHF frequencies, signals are block by almost everything... trees, leaves, houses, etc. Might be ok car to car if you are staying close.
will go thru walls few hundred yards . not long range
Great little personal com radios for the family when we go out and I don't have to worry much about interference. You can program them yourselves with nearly and infinite number of frequencies and codes. 900 MHz at one watt will go a decent distance and works well through obstacles and wall but don't think you're going to get stellar performance. In perfect conditions you'll probably get a mile, much less in stores and obstacles and less still if you're surrounded by metal. That's just the way radios work.
Wanted short range digitally encrypted communication without upsetting the FCC. I get about a mile or so point to point in an urban setting. So what's the big deal about ISM band radios? Privacy tones just keep people from butting in to your conversation by making the radio ignore transmissions that don't have the tone. Encryption actually prevents others from hearing you, but it's not legal for frs and murs. It is legal for the ISM band.
They work great, easy to program especially if you have done DMR radios. Great way to try the 33cm band.
My photos show the size compared to a soda can and a Uniden scanner. NOTE: I'm using a stubby antenna on this radio. The original antenna is a six inch whip. Software is easy to use and these radios offer encryption! I tested it out using a Uniden scanner with DMR option. The scanner picks up regular dmr frequencies and shows the color code and slot number. If I switch to a channel that I've encrypted and put the scanner on the same frequency, I may hear a quick garbled sound at first, then silence! It's not a scrambler, it is truly an encryption. I love these radios. I purchased 4 total. I would have like to have seen a usb c port in the radio or battery as some manufacturers have incorporated, but no complaints. I've only used to test on a 1/4 mile drive. Took one radio and left one home. Windows up in the truck. Worked flawlessly. Great job Retevis!
I bought it from another site that has them on sale for 67.00 dollars and free shipping. It arrived in three days. I would recommend buying a programming cable. Mine is for a different radio and is outdated and only works on xp machines. I’ve ordered a new one.
I bought one of these a week ago. I was able to program it in the ham bands with ease using an old programming cable from another radio brand. Win 10 refused to work with the old cable. I ended up using an old xp laptop. It worked great.
The RT10 is a 900Mhz radio from Retevis. It has a feeling of being well built. it is bigger than the Baofeng radio that i have a few of. The audio quality is better than other radios I have used.
This is THE handheld to get for cheap 900 MHz ham radio. The con is that this package does NOT include the programming cable, however it is the dual pin TRS cable that many Retevis, Radioddity, and other Chinese radios use (the Prolific serial driver is used). I had this radio codeplug programmed and on the air with my one local 900 MHz repeater working a few minutes.
So here goes Retevis RT10 900mhz radio works great. I used a pair of these radios in a park, no cell towers allowed in the park. Good 2 miles between vehicles, no interfierence at all, clear audio on digital. Same range as my 4watts gmrs. Not bad for a 70 dollar radio.
I wanted these for test radios. I realize it is a bottom end radio, but honestly they seem to fit the need and work fine actually. For 73 bucks on sale, well these just can't be beat. Prgramming is amazingly simple and easy using the software, something that is not always the case with factory software.
We have 5 of the RT-10 ISM 900MHz radios. We got them several years ago and use 2 of them daily. (The other ones are in our go bags.) Great radios and are working well.
Great radio! Wonderful user manual! Easy to use software! What I wish for. A manual for the programming software. A front display that shows the "Channel Alias" from the software. Memorizing zone/channel info is a pain.
