EZTalk 5 / EZTalk 65 Update Guide for iPhone Bluetooth Firmware Update + Radio Firmware Update

Read This First:Use an iPhone for the Bluetooth update. Use a computer and programming cable for the radio firmware update.

What's New:This update adds the Map feature to the iOS app, including navigation, creating or joining teams, sharing locations, and setting geofences (electronic boundaries).

Part 1  Bluetooth Firmware Update on iOS

Step 1  Open the RETEVIS BT OTA Test Page

Open the link below in Safari on your iPhone or iPad.

Step 2  Install and Open RETEVIS BT OTA in TestFlight

Install TestFlight, return to the test page, tap “View in TestFlight,” then install and open RETEVIS BT OTA.

Step 3  Disconnect the Radio from Other Apps

Disconnect EZTalk 5 from the RETEVIS app or any other Bluetooth app, then close that app.

Step 4  Connect to the Radio in RETEVIS BT OTA

Power on EZTalk 5. In the Connect tab, tap “RETEVIS EZTalk 5” and confirm that the status shows “Connected.”

 


Step 5  Select the Bluetooth Firmware and Start the Update

Open the Update tab, select the EZTalk 5 Bluetooth firmware file, then tap the yellow “Update” button.

Step 6  Confirm Completion

When “Upgrade completed” appears, tap “Confirm,” then reconnect the radio in the RETEVIS app.

Part 2  Radio Firmware Update

Windows driver.: Download EZTalk 5 V1.0.00.017 (BIN) 

Update Steps

Step 1  Check the Windows Driver

If Device Manager shows “PL2303TA Does Not Support Windows 11 and Later,” install a compatible driver manually:

  1. In Device Manager, expand “Ports (COM & LPT).” Right-click the PL2303 device and select “Update driver.”
  2. Select “Browse my computer for drivers.” Paste the extracted driver folder path, check “Include subfolders,” then click “Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.”
  3. Select the compatible “Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port” driver (use version 3.3.5.122 [2009/7/17] when instructed), click “Next,” and finish the installation. Reconnect the cable and confirm that a COM port appears without a warning icon.

macOS Driver Installation

Install the PL2303 driver from Prolific or the Mac App Store. If macOS blocks it, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security, click “Allow,” restart the Mac, reconnect the cable, and confirm that /dev/cu.usbserial… appears in Terminal.

Linux Driver Installation

The PL2303 driver normally loads automatically. Check for /dev/ttyUSB0 with “ls /dev/ttyUSB*”. If needed, run “sudo modprobe pl2303”; for access errors, run “sudo usermod -aG dialout $USER”, then sign out and back in.

Step 2  Extract and Open the Update Tool

Extract the Firmware Upgrade ZIP file, then open Firmware Upgrade from the extracted folder.

Step 3  Connect the Cable and Enter Firmware Update Mode

Power off EZTalk 5 and connect the cable. Hold PTT + PF1, press the Power key, and release the keys when the indicator turns green.

Step 4  Select the Port, Model, and Firmware Version

Select the following settings:

  • Port Selection: Select the COM port for the programming cable.
  • Device Model: Select “EZTalk 5/EZTalk 65.”
  • Operation Function: Select “Download Application to the Flash.”
  • Upgrade Mode: Select “Online Upgrade.”
  • Firmware Version: Select the required EZTalk 5 version0.00.017.

Step 5  Start the Update

Select the agreement checkbox, then click “Start upgrading.” Do not disconnect the cable or close the program.

Step 6  Confirm Completion

When “Download firmware successfully” appears, close the message and wait for the radio to restart.

Step 7  Verify the Version and Test the Radio

Reconnect the radio in the RETEVIS app, check the firmware version.

If the Update Fails

Check the COM port and cable driver, enter firmware update mode again, and retry. Never use firmware for another model.
